Most doctors 'think' that 14 days worth of Doxycycline will kill off the Lyme Borreliosis and that you're healed. This may be the case if you are bitten, rip the tick off and high tail it to your doctor asap! Nothing could be further from the truth if you have had untreated Lyme for weeks, months or years.
What are co-infections?
Scientists recognize more than a dozen tick borne diseases and new ones are still being discovered. One tick may carry more than one disease, so sometimes people get more than one co-infection from the bite of a single tick.
Co-infections are opportunistic infections caused by pathogens, particularly opportunistic pathogens (those that take advantage of certain situations), such as bacterial, viral, fungal or protozoan infections that usually do not cause disease in a healthy host. A compromised immune system, however, presents an "opportunity" for the pathogen to infect the host rendering them very ill. Normally where there is Lyme, there are co-infections which makes treatment that more difficult.
Okay, I KNOW that I won't be making friends when I post this, but hey, who cares? Wrong is wrong, especially when you are preying on the sick. I recently ran across this 'protocol' and I wanted to share with you what I have found out.
There aren't many resources available for Lyme patients worldwide, but there are a few in the USA. Thanks to Lisa Hilton over at What Is Lyme for this comprehensive list. She's a star & an asset to Lyme sufferers worldwide.
Have you tested for MTHFR? Confused? Here is a complete list of doctors/healthcare providers that treat MTHFR and other mutations.
The Importance of Amino Acids in Chronic Lyme and MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) Mutations
Amino acids are at the basis of all life processes, as they are absolutely essential for every metabolic process. Among their most important tasks are the optimal transport and optimal storage of all nutrients (i.e. water, fat, carbohydrates, proteins, minerals and vitamins). The majority of diseases can essentially be traced back to metabolic disturbances.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse with Lyme. Enter the MTHFR gene mutation. Oh yes, it is just a barrel of fun having Lyme, as I am sure you, the reader are very aware. I am by no means a MTHFR guru, but being recently diagnosed with this little treasure, I have immersed myself into everything I could get my hands on. Here is a basic explanation of the MTHFR.
What is the science behind Salt/C? How does this simple protocol help people with Lyme Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, when so many other protocols fail? I think the most accurate answer is that nobody really knows. But there are many possible explanations. Here are a few scientific explanations that seem plausible.
Someone that I know named recently came up with a really GOOD idea. Apparently, you can 'self-report' your Lyme disease to the CDC. Her idea was to bombard them in May, in protest of their bogus diagnostic guidelines/criteria and blow their 'estimated' 300,000 new cases of Lyme a year theory out of the water!
